Sun Bear is diminishing
Bornean Sun Bear is the second rarest bear species, after the giant panda.
The total sun bear population has declined by at least 30% in the last 30 years, they have been classified as 'vulnerable' in 2007 meaning they are at high risk of extinction in the wild (IUCN 2007).
The threats that they are facing are:
- Habitat loss - Massive deforestation for palm oil plantation
- Hunting - To obtain their gall bladders, paw and meat
- Pet trade - To keep the baby sun bear as pet or for attraction commercial purpose
